Dear Parishioner,
This week Wednesday, Feb. 17, we begin the season of Lent 2010. Please note the schedule of Masses and Prayer Services on that day. On Ash Wednesday, as we receive the sign of the ashes on our foreheads, we will hear the admonition “Turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel” We are reminded that Lent is a time of conversion. It is a time to take a honest look at our relationship to God, others and ourselves. We are asked to consider the pillars of Lent-prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We should set aside more time in our day for some quiet time with God and His Word. Also, we should discipline ourselves to cultivate better habits in our lives regarding our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual lives. We should also resolve to spend more quality time with family. We can also be aware of the poor. This weekend please take one of the Rice Bowls and fill it with change before the end of Lent. May Lent, 2010, be a good one for all of us.
At the 11:00 AM Mass last Sunday we welcomed our Cub Scout Troop 773 as they honored one hundred years of the scouting movement. In attendance were former Scout masters and Eagle Scouts from Annunciata. It was impressive to see these Eagle Scouts and to hear them recount how the principles of scouting have helped in their lives and professions. To honor the occasion Trinity Council of the Knights of Columbus stepped out in their formal regalia as honor guards at the mass. I hope they inspired some young men to join their fine organization.
A FINAL REMINDER: This Sunday afternoon Feb,14, the Home and Family Association will present ‘Late Nite Catechism 3’ at 4PM in the church. Tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $40.00 which includes show and dinner catered by Glenwood Oaks. Come out and enjoy, knowing that you are supporting our wonderful “Jewel of a school”

Dear Parishioner,
The Scripture passages chosen for this, the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, describe the callings of Isaiah, Paul and the disciples Peter, James and John. They all had a profound experience of the presence of God in their lives. They felt unworthy. However a profound experience of God’s presence encouraged them to respond “Here I am Lord. Send me”. They left all to follow God’s calling. Not many of us, perhaps, will experience so dramatic a presence of God in our lives. We do receive inspiration through the Holy Spirit, the words of Scripture, Christ’s presence in the Eucharist. We pray for the grace to respond as Isaiah did "Here I am Lord. Send me”. We also pray that we will follow the callings each of us have committed to.
Catholic Schools' Week ended Friday, February 5, with an all-school mass. The school administration, faculty and students had many events during the week highlighting Catholic education. The week’s activities opened at the 11:00 A.M. mass last Sunday. It was well attended by parents, students and faculty. Many visitors accepted the invitation to attend the Open House. They visited the classrooms and viewed the work of the students and teachers. People also had an opportunity to talk with the students and staff. Congratulations to all involved in making the day a success. Thanks also to those who spoke at St.Kevin’s and Annunciata churches about our school and Open House. They all did a wonderful job promoting our school. Many people are now inquiring about enrollment at Annunciata school. Our reputation as a ‘Jewel of a School’ is spreading.
Our school building was very presentable. This was due to the work of our maintenance personnel. They were ably assisted by a number of school parents who volunteered their services. They did an A-one job. We thank them very much.
